Most people don’t have a chance to go to hollywood to meet the people that they watch in movies, tv shows, and anime everyday, but at comic con they do. That’s why we here at CNA appreciate comic conventions so much. Here we interview special guests and community icons that found or operate at several cons. We interviewed Mario Russo of Warner Robin Comic Con about his upcoming con on Sunday January 6th 2019.

Mario please tell us the origin of Warner Robin Comic Con?

I had returned to setting up and selling at Conventions in 2009 after the market crash only to find there were very few comic cons around. So I decided to start running small 1 day shows in the outskirts of Atlanta. My 1st was in McDonough, then Marietta, then Columbus Ga. In 2012 one of my regular customers from Warner Robins suggested I try a show there. Now there are so many Cons I just do the WRCC once a year (Used to be twice)

How do you organize such a massive event that is always growing?

In truth, it's not that massive. One of the difficulties is getting new guests for each show keeping within budget, this way we're able to keep our ticket fees low, making it one of the most affordable shows. Also My vendors and attendees are loyal which makes it possible.

How does your comic con vary from year to year?

Our comic con usually varies in the Media and Comic Book professional guests we bring in for the fans. Also each year we bring in a varied set of local artist and writers to showcase their latest creations.

Please tell us about the past guest?

At past shows Guests included: Clerks Brian O'Halloran and Marilyn Ghigliotti, Walking Deads Sophia, Madison Lintz and Big Tiny, Theodus Crane, Buck Roger's Gil Gerard and more Comic Book Legends George Perez, Wolverine's Original artist Herb Trimpe, Sonic's Tracy Yardley, Power Pack's Creator June Brigman and more.

Venders are always interesting at comic con, do they contact you or did you track them down? Please tell us a funny vender story?

Over the years through trial and error (on their part and mine) we have created a core group of phenomenal vendors who come back every year, with a handful who tend to rotate from year to year. At our 1st show in McDonough, back in 2010, we didn't have enough vendors to fill the room. So the day before I contacted everyone I knew offer them free table space at the convention. Only 2 took me up on the offer, lol. We had 153 attendees and the rest is history.

What should 1st time comic con goer’s expect to see this year?

First time show goes to our convention will not have to deal with the long lines, the waiting to see guest and the impersonal feel you'd get at a giant mega con. What our attendees should expect is a personal quaint experience akin to the conventions of the 1980s. No ones in a rush, everyone is friendly and having a good time. This is a very Family Friendly Convention.

Many con goer’s like to take their kids, What does your con offer for the young ones ?

Beside the Family Friendly atmosphere our Venue is a Marriott hotel. So unlike big convention center with cement floors, no place to sit and a general cold feeling ours is warm and comfortable. We also have a kid's costume contest for 12 and under with prizes for most of the contestants.

Is cosplay encouraged? Do you have a cosplay contest?

Yes Cosplay is definitely encouraged. We have 2 costume contest, one for kids and one for adults. Most of the kids get prizes, the Adults get Convention cash, which can only be spent at the Convention 1st prize $25, 2nd Prize $15 and third prize $10. It has been mentioned that we have some of the best cosplayers for a 1 day show
